Adamanda's Ski 2001

Our first USA skiing since Lake Tahoe in '95, In January '01 we went to Winter Park in Colorado, with Ian and three of his chums.

Before we went home, Amanda did some work in Redmond, and a group from that office went to Mt Baker for the weekend, so we went with them.

Outdoor hot-tub - it's weird being in
a hot bath with ice in your hair!

The ridge of the continental divide isn't
as pretty as the Alps or the Sierra Nevada.
It's still nicer than Hertfordshire though.

Dog sled ride

A highlight of the trip was a couple of hours with Dog Sled Rides of Winter Park.
dcp01667
We'd never met dogs like this before,
so we weren't sure how friendly they'd be
dcp01669
They seemed OK though :-)
dcp01667
Amanda's face is moving fast, but the dog's tongue was faster
- he got her smack on the lips :-)
dcp01667
We'd've been happy to stay and play with doggies for a couple of hours!
dcp01669
The luxurious accommodation of the dog sled
- inside the bag it's comfortable, warm & dry
dcp01672
The ride sometimes goes over 20mph!
dcp01674
... and sometimes we have to stop so the dogs can eat snow :-)

Mt Baker

On Saturday the snow was a bit crappy, but there was good snowfall Saturday night, so Sunday was great. The tops of the mountains here are about the same altitude as Denver!
dcp01717
Good craggy/glacier stuff
dcp01728
Sitting in snow and smiling!
That doesn't happen very often! :-)
